New House

I realized that I never did post anything about our house after we bought it; that may have something to do with the simple fact that we bought it before I ever started this blog. I suddenly feel the need to talk about it.

While Brandon was in Iraq we were saving up money with the intent to buy a house. We had been renting this fabulous duplex that really didn't even look like a duplex at all but rather a regular house. Our landlords lived on the other side of the house and were wonderful people. They took care of me and watched over me while Brandon was gone. It was such a blessing.

We were looking at houses on the internet when Brandon was still away and I would drive past them to check out the neighborhood and see what it really looked like (pictures can really be decieving sometimes). We had a realtor picked out and an appointment set up so that we could get started right away once he returned. We were looking at another house and had actually put in an offer but the realtor selling the house wasn't really working with us which really worked out great because as soon as we found the house pictured above we immediately knew this was the house. We pulled our offer on that house and placed one on this house. We knew that some other people were looking at the house right before us and were going to put in an offer so we raised the price higher than what they were asking in hopes that we would be the ones to get it and sure enough they accepted our offer by that afternoon! It was very exciting! Like I said, we just knew this was the house.

Let me give you a little history of the house: The family we bought it from were actually the ones who had the house built back in 1951. The father was a doctor here in town; a pediatrition if I know my facts correctly. My grandma knew him because back when they had elevator "attendants" she was one for a period of time and used to have to give him rides up and down the elevator each day. The family took such great care of everything when they lived here. All the appliances are original, meaning the kitchen has the fridge, stove/oven, sink from the 50's. The cupboards in the kitchen are still the original metal ones. They had all the original furniture when they were showing the house and it all looked brand new! It was truly like walking into a time warp!! The mother passed away two years ago and the father just passed last summer, so the children were selling the house.

The house had a carport attached but we recently turned it into an attached garage and it turned out wonderfully! We are working on getting a fence up; the fence they had around the backyard was also original but it was starting to lean and was about to fall over in some parts so we (hopefully by fall) will be installing a vinyl privacy fence. I think it'll look fantastic!
